About Me

I have a background in computer graphics, specifically the physics of light and simulation. This technical foundation has shaped my career, from researching rendering systems at Adobe to leading large-scale engineering organizations at Google.

In the Office

I spent the first half of my career as an individual contributor. Much of that time was at Adobe Research in the Visual Computing Lab, where I focused on building rendering engines and the simulation of brush strokes. Those years shaped my belief that the best products are built by bridging the divide between academic research and practical software.

For the past fourteen years at Google, I have focused on building products and platforms at a global scale. This has included growing consumer services to over a billion users and leading the engineering for global hardware and software ecosystems. I remain a builder at heart, and I prioritize staying close to the technical reality of the work even when managing large organizations. I find that technical excellence and organizational health are inherently linked.

With a Camera

When I am not at a desk, I am usually outdoors. Photography is a way for me to slow down and observe. I began this practice in 2005, focusing initially on avian subjects before expanding into broader wildlife and their environments. While I appreciate the drama of grand landscapes, I have recently found more value in capturing intimate scenes and abstract patterns found in nature.

About this site

I started this blog as a place to organize my thoughts and document what I am learning. It is an exercise in clarity: a way to translate technical problems and personal observations into something more tangible. While these notes are primarily for my own reference, I hope they provide some utility to anyone else navigating similar challenges.
